Jeju Province Development Corporation is planning to build a new office building when an appropriate place is secured in the old downtown area of Jeju. Like other regions, the old downtown area of Jeju was stagnating due to the simultaneous outflow and aging of the population. Therefore, the corporation is determined to actively build its office building to solve this problem. In fact, over the past 10 years, the population rate of the elderly in the old downtown has reached about 20 percent, and there has been a 20 percent decrease in the population.

Jeju City Mayor Ahn said, “The urban regeneration project that is now taking place in the old downtown area has limitations in increasing the population.” Furthermore, he said that attracting public institutions to the area is one way to attract more people. The mayor plans to carry out urban regeneration projects and to attract more public institutions to revitalize the old downtown area, once the Jeju Province Development Corporation’s office building is built. The CEO of the corporation said, “When the office building is built in the old downtown area, we are thinking of communicating with the region and making it the landmark of the area.”
